Through this grant, the Regional Fund on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) is seeking applications from organisations in the Southern Africa region to propose innovative ways to address child marriage and its intersections with other forms of gender-based violence across the lifespan such as: child abuse and neglect; intimate partner and sexual violence and family violence.
Hivos in partnership with Ford Foundation and SIDA manages the Regional Fund on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The Regional SRHR Fund was established in recognition of the critical need for a strategic regional response to collectively address the myriad of SRHR issues in Southern Africa with particular attention to young people and adolescents as well as to provide an opportunity for donors to coordinate their support to SRHR in the region.
Funding Information
The grant will support activities at a national and/or regional level (multi-country and/or collaborative) to a maximum of $US 25,000 with a focus on Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Activities
This grant will prioritize the following activities:
- The coordination and/or adaptation of support services for married adolescent girls and young women who have experienced gender-based violence (protection and support).
- Piloting, adaptation, testing and/or scale up of new or promising interventions with a focus on primary prevention, for example, promoting non-violent social norms, practices and behaviors.
- Primary (including formative) research and secondary analysis of existing data.
- Projects to disseminate promising research/program findings for translation into policy and practice.
- Projects focused on improved coordination between, and capacity-building of service providers (i.e., Health and justice sectors) to respond effectively to married adolescents and young women who have experienced gender-based violence.
- Programs focused on engaging men and boys.
- Programs feeding into national coordinating frameworks and/or action plans addressing child marriage and its intersections with other forms of gender-based violence (supporting regional initiatives and actors).
- Local, national or regional advocacy campaigns which are evidence-based and in collaboration with key actors.
Geographic Focus
Southern Africa Region: Malawi, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Eligibility Criteria
- Funding is limited. Preference will therefore be given to:
- Proposals that are well thought out and demonstrate a clear connection to the objectives of the Regional SRHR Fund and the proposal call.
- Proposals that articulate a strategic and innovative approach to addressing child marriage and its linkages to gender-based violence across the lifespan.
- Proposals that have the potential to have the greatest impact in moving the child marriage agenda forward in Southern Africa.
- Proposals that include elements of sustainability and have the ability for scale-up.
- Proposals should demonstrate that the organization applying for the grant is working in and has relationships with relevant stakeholders in one of the target countries.
- The organization should be able to demonstrate an understanding of SRHR in the region and the connection to child marriage.
- Proposals should be submitted with a corresponding budget, work plan and results framework.
- Proposals must adhere to international safety and ethical guidelines
- Proposals must be received on time and should conform with the information requested as articulated in the proposal guidelines.
- Only activity-based costs will be considered.
- Previous Fund recipients are encouraged to apply as long as they fulfill the criteria stated above.
- Submission of a proposal does not automatically guarantee funding.
- Review of proposals will be done by a Proposal Appraisal Committee that will review proposals against all of the selection criteria.
- Only applications from organisations/institutions meeting the following criteria will be considered:
- Organisations has been in existence for at least 3-5 years.
- Registered, at least with its local government structure (proof required).
- Tax compliant /tax exempt with local National Revenue Authority (proof required).
- Focused on women and youth sexual and reproductive health rights in their organisational work (i.e., Proposal is rooted in existing work of the organisation).
- Must have the needed organisational structures for effective implementation of the project (i.e., functional Board, Staffing, HR Systems).
- Must have a solid financial management system to properly account for funds received (proof required).
- Must have a bank account registered in the organisation’s name (proof required).
- Organisations who are successful will undergo a due diligence assessment (if Hivos has not undertaken this with the organisation in the last two years).
- Please also include documents confirming the legal and financial status of applicant’s organization. A template for the budget is also available if they require it.
