The Government of Alberta is pleased to launch the mental health in schools pilot Project.
The Public Health Agency of Canada describes positive mental health as ‘the capacity of each and all of them to feel, think and act in ways that enhance their ability to enjoy life and deal with the challenges they face. It is a positive sense of emotional and spiritual well-being that respects the importance of culture, equity, social justice, interconnections and personal dignity’.

School Pilot Project
- Mental Health in Schools Pilot
- The education system plays an important role in contributing to enhanced positive mental health in children and youth. Promoting and supporting positive mental health and welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environments is vital to ensuring children and youth are resilient better able to learn, achieve success and build healthy relationships. This is the shared responsibility of parents, educators, community and government.
- The Government of Alberta has allocated up to $10 million per year for the 2022/23 and 2023/24 school years to support pilot projects focused on improving delivery of mental health supports and services for students and tools, training and resources for the school community. This new pilot is designed to address gaps in mental health supports and services, and funding will support successful applicants to provide students with access to a range of services.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be a:
- School authority within the province of Alberta working in partnership with one or more mental health support/service provider(s) or other entity utilizing evidence-informed practices group of school authorities within the province of Alberta working in partnership with one or more mental health support /service provider(s) or other entity utilizing evidence-informed practices
- Canadian mental health support/service provider or other entity that utilizes evidence-informed supports and/or services working in partnership with one or more school authorities within the province of Alberta
- The mental health support/service provider or other entity may be a sole proprietor, and must demonstrate evidence-informed practices are being utilized in the approach outlined in the proposal.
