UN Women is seeking applications for the SheMedia Schools to provide training and information support to the women activists and CSOs representatives affected by the full-scale war to improve their advocacy and communication skills, and to facilitate the establishment of new partnerships with media for communication and advocacy of gender equality and women’s rights.
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls, the empowerment of women, and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
UN Women continues to prioritize supporting women’s organizations and women human rights defenders to enhance their visibility and critical role in monitoring, advocacy and decision-making at all levels. This support is one of the key focuses of the UN Women project “Transformative Approaches to Achieving Gender Equality in Ukraine”, funded by Sweden, which aims at employing transformative approaches to the advancement of gender equality and women’s empowerment, through engaging with the key institutions at the same time, that have significant impact on either reproduction of restrictive gender stereotypes or can help to break down these social norms and pave the way to greater gender equality and women’s empowerment: the government, the parliament, women’s organizations, media and the private sector.
UN Women work in Ukraine focuses on supporting the government and civil society in advancing gender equality and implementation of the national and international commitments on gender equality and women’s human rights. UN Women Ukraine implements interventions towards the realization of following strategic goals:
- Governance and participation in public life.
- Women’s economic empowerment.
- Ending violence against women and girls and women.
- Peace and Security.
- Humanitarian action and disaster risk reduction.

- The budget range for this proposal should be 120,000.00 USD. – 160,000.00 USD

Required Services/Results
- Through this Call for Proposal, UN Women within the project “Transformative Approaches to Achieving Gender Equality in Ukraine”, funded by Sweden, intends to sign a Partner Agreement with a civil society organization (community-based organization, non-governmental organization, youth-led organization or other non-state, non-profit, voluntary entity) to act as a Responsible Party for implementation of the She Media School initiative that will contribute to the fulfilling of the following outcome and output of the project:
- Outcome: Women and women’s organizations meaningfully participate in evidence-based decision-making, monitoring of governmental commitments, and advocacy for GEWE priorities.
- Output: Women’s rights activists increasingly collaborate with media to challenge patriarchal social norms and advocate for their priorities.

- Objectives of the assignment:
- Women activists and CSOs representatives, including those who are affected by the full-scale war, and who work with vulnerable groups of women (women IDPs, women with disabilities, young and elderly, ethnic minorities women, LBTIQ) have improved their communication knowledge and skills and awareness on how to conduct advocacy and communications activities.
- Women activists and CSOs representatives strengthened their capacity to establish new partnerships and effectively collaborate with media and communicate in different media to advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment during the full-scale war and early recovery.
- Women activists and CSOs representatives have advanced their media presence to represent their expertise and voice women’s needs.
- The selected organization will work on the following tasks:
- Output 1: Women activists and representatives of women’s CSOs strengthened their advocacy and communication skills and capacity to effectively collaborate and communicate in different media to advocate and promote the women’s needs and gender equality and women’s empowerment agenda.
- Output 2: Women activists and CSOs representatives, including those who are affected by the full-scale war, and work with vulnerable groups of women (women IDPs, women with disabilities, young and elderly, ethnic minorities, LBTIQ) have strengthened partnership with media and advanced their media presence to represent their expertise, and voice women’s needs.

Eligibility Criteria
- Technical/functional competencies required
- Minimum 2 years of experience relevant for the ToR (providing professional training, mentoring and career coaching services, communication campaigns and media engagement; record of activities on gender equality and women’s rights issues, organizing multi-stakeholders’ consultations/meetings on gender equality and women’s rights issues).
- Previous experience of work at the national, regional, and local level and coordination of cooperation between different stakeholders, in particular the media.
- Previous experience of providing capacity development for civil society organizations and activists activities on communication and advocacy skills for civil society organizations and activists.
- Other competencies, which while not required, can be an asset for the performance of services
- Prior experience of working with UN/UN Women.
