Grants for Prevention of Chronic and Moderate Acute Malnutrition in Batha Province, Chad (Lot 5)

Call for Applications: Preventing Malnutrition Among Vulnerable Women & Children in Gaza

Deadline: 06-Dec-2025

The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched a new call for expressions of interest for initiatives focused on the prevention of chronic malnutrition and the treatment of moderate acute malnutrition in the Batha region of Chad.

This call aims to strengthen community involvement and improve nutritional outcomes among vulnerable groups, particularly children and women, through a comprehensive, community-based approach.

The program’s expected results emphasize the reinforcement of community engagement in managing acute malnutrition among children aged 6 to 23 months and pregnant and breastfeeding women. It seeks to ensure that malnourished children and women are effectively identified and supported within nutritional units (UNS) and that severe cases are referred for specialized treatment. Children between 6 and 59 months will receive nutritional inputs for malnutrition treatment, while mothers and children will have improved access to healthcare and adequate nutrition during and after pregnancy.

A key component of the initiative is supporting household resilience by diversifying income sources and improving knowledge and practices related to nutrition and health. This will be achieved through the establishment and support of “Clubs des Mères” and “Mamans Lumières,” which will play a vital role in community-level nutrition education, agricultural utilization, and malnutrition prevention. Additionally, cash distribution to children under two years and pregnant or breastfeeding women will serve as a preventive measure against malnutrition.

The program will also focus on community education sessions addressing essential family practices and nutrition, reinforcing coordination and community-based nutrition surveillance systems. Implementation partners will be expected to have the capacity to apply national protocols, ensure high-quality monitoring and reporting, and align with operational and strategic guidelines.

Finally, the initiative aims to enhance the knowledge of mothers and caregivers on key family practices related to infant and young child feeding, hygiene, and disease prevention, while strengthening multi-actor coordination across all levels. Through this integrated approach, WFP seeks to reduce malnutrition in the Batha region and contribute to long-term community health and resilience.
