Applications open for Rural England Prosperity Fund (UK)

Deadline: 01-Dec-2025

Breckland Council is now inviting applications for funding through the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF). The funding is aimed at supporting capital projects that stimulate growth and prosperity in rural areas of the district.

There are two main types of capital grant schemes available. The first is for new business start-ups. This supports Breckland-based businesses in their first year of operation, helping them acquire essential capital items needed to get started. These could include equipment or physical tools directly linked to launching the business.

The second is the Rural Business Growth Grants, which are divided into medium growth and high growth categories. Medium growth grants support businesses trading for at least 12 months by enabling capital investments that boost productivity, efficiency, or capacity. High growth grants, intended for businesses also trading for a minimum of 12 months, are for larger-scale capital investments designed to significantly accelerate growth, increase output, or expand into new markets.

The funding amounts vary by grant type. New business start-ups can apply for £500 to £1,000. Medium growth businesses may access £500 to £2,499. High growth grants range from £2,500 up to £50,000.

To be eligible, applicants must be Breckland-based. Start-up grants are for new or early-stage businesses within their first year. Medium and high growth grants are only for businesses with at least one year of trading history.

Some exclusions apply. REPF funding cannot be used for farming equipment, infrastructure, or diversification within agriculture. However, capital support may be available for farm diversification projects outside agriculture, like rural tourism. Other ineligible activities include gambling, illegal businesses, projects already supported by other Defra schemes, retrospective purchases, and vehicle or trailer purchases.

Evaluation of applications will consider factors such as job creation, project feasibility, growth potential, and whether the project would happen without the grant. Additional points are awarded for projects that improve productivity, introduce new technology or processes, or create innovative products or services, especially under the high growth category.

Applications should clearly demonstrate a sustainable business model and show economic, environmental, or social benefits for the rural Breckland area.
