Call for Applications: Ethical and Inclusive Documentation of the Russo-Ukrainian War

#image_title

Deadline: 18-Nov-2025

The Chemonics has opened under the “Ethical and Inclusive Documentation of the Russo-Ukrainian War” call, inviting organisations to submit proposals focused on documenting the diverse experiences of war through principled, survivor-centred, and inclusive approaches.

The program is part of the “Partnership for a Strong Ukraine” initiative and seeks projects that use trauma-aware methodologies, uphold data protection, and ensure ethical standards throughout the documentation process.

Applicants are encouraged to design projects that go beyond conventional narratives of heroism and victimhood, highlighting everyday life, resistance, and marginalized voices. These may include digital archives, interviews, storytelling projects, or multimedia formats that preserve the lived experiences of people affected by conflict. Projects are expected to contribute to public memory, symbolic recognition, and social healing, and help foster social cohesion between state and community actors.

Grants are intended for 15 to 18 months of activity, with funding anticipated between 9,315,000 and 11,178,000 UAH per project, though budgets may be adjusted based on justification. The competition will support around five to six initiatives. A prerequisite is for applicants to adopt inclusive, conflict-sensitive, and “do no harm” principles, paying special attention to trauma, data security, and equitable representation of vulnerable groups. Organisations must show prior experience, robust governance, and capacity for financial and administrative management.

This funding opportunity is open to recognized nonprofit organisations registered under Ukrainian law, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria. Preference in scoring may be given to organisations with female leadership presence. Projects may take place across Ukraine, with particular emphasis on the Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
