The Rathsherry Community Benefit Fund has been established by Energia Renewables in partnership with local groups from the areas surrounding Rathsherry Windfarm to provide social and economic benefits to the local community alongside the environmental advantages of the wind farm.
The fund focuses on projects that improve the utilisation of existing community space in areas within the fund boundary, contributions towards running and administration costs, and purchasing additional equipment to expand and support new and existing services and activities in each of the areas.
Particular emphasis will be placed on funding activities and services that are specifically aimed at older people, youth, children, and people with disabilities, environmental improvements, bringing the wider community together, health improvements, and culture and history. Applicants are encouraged to network, share best practice, and cooperate more between the areas, with projects demonstrating the ability to collaborate, network, and share best practice being encouraged and supported.
Grants ranging from £1,000 to £3,000 are available, with partnership applications receiving up to £9,000, where each partner will receive a maximum of £3,000 to support their project. Eligible applicants include constituted voluntary organisations, community groups, and local youth groups.
The fund supports projects addressing issues within the theme areas of energy efficiency and sustainability, social, cultural or sporting benefit for the local community, educational issues with a sustainability angle, and environmental or economic benefit.
The Foundation will not fund organisations or activities that promote causes contrary to its purposes, including but not limited to those linked to armaments, alcohol, human rights abuses, tobacco, or pornography.
This fund is a valuable opportunity for community groups to enhance local facilities and services, improve community cohesion, and promote sustainability and wellbeing across the Rathsherry area.
