Luena WASH Grants – Small Grants for Community WASH Projects in Asia and Oceania

Ashburton District Council’s Community Project Grant Program (New Zealand)

Deadline: 15-Dec-2025

The Luena Foundation grants are designed to empower communities to address critical water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) challenges with locally driven solutions.

The funding supports projects that provide clean and safe water, promote hygiene education, improve sanitation facilities, and reduce waterborne diseases. By targeting children and families, these initiatives ensure that vulnerable populations benefit directly, fostering healthier communities and long-term resilience. Grant size is up to USD $1,500, and projects can last up to 12 months. Applicants are required to contribute at least 25% of project costs, either in cash or in-kind, to demonstrate local investment and commitment. Organizations should show strong local leadership, community involvement, and measurable outcomes to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of their interventions.

The SafeDeposits Scotland Community Fund similarly provides grants to support projects that directly benefit local communities. Up to three organizations are funded each quarter, with a maximum grant of £5,000 per project. Eligible projects can address sustainability and the environment, employability and career skills, social inclusion, technology and digital inclusion, or broader community improvement. Applicants must be registered nonprofit, community-based, or grassroots organizations, led by individuals from the communities they serve. Contributions from the organization, whether cash, labor, or other in-kind resources, are required to complement the grant funding. The fund emphasizes accountability, transparency, and tangible community impact.

Both funding programs highlight locally-led solutions and community ownership, encouraging organizations to design projects that respond to specific local needs. By supporting innovative approaches, capacity building, and sustainable practices, these grants help strengthen communities while addressing critical issues in health, environment, education, and social development. Clear project plans, realistic budgets, and evidence of expected impact are essential for maximizing the chances of receiving support. These grants offer valuable seed funding to enable communities to implement meaningful, high-impact initiatives.
