Nominations are now open for the Attitude Awards.
The Attitude Trust champions the integration of people with disabilities into every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life. This charitable trust funds scholarship for disabled youth to attend tertiary education and established the prestigious Attitude Awards, held annually since 2008.
This event brings a mix of celebrating achievement and stunning performances.
Doors open at 6pm with a chance to catch up with old friends and make new ones over drinks & canapés. Dignitaries, Government Ministers, Kiwi celebrities and sports stars will all be in the mix networking and socialising. The awards are then presented across an evening peppered with entertainment and a three-course table service dinner.
Accessible features include sign language interpreters, audio description services and the room is spaced to cater for wheelchairs and mobility dog.
Award Categories
- 2021 Attitude Youth Scholar Award: The Attitude Trust is a charitable trust. Introduced for 2021 it will award up to 20 certificates to Kiwi’s of school age who have overcome their challenges and achieved a significant milestone in their education. Successes can be in the field of sports, scholastic, artistic or performance. All nominations will need to be supported by written statements by Teachers . Nominations are for a person with disability up to age of 17 and still attending school in the 2021 year. Recipients may opt to have their certificates presented as part of their school prize-giving. Two recipients will be invited to attend The Attitude Awards.
- 2021 Attitude Creative Award: Nominees for this award may be pursuing excellence across a broad spectrum of traditional or contemporary creative endeavours, including (but not limited to) visual art, performance art, media and digital design.
- 2021 Attitude Impact Award: This is the chance to recognise a person with or without a disability whose efforts have significantly impacted the lives of people with disabilities. This person may be working for a government agency or community organisation, working alongside Kiwi’s with disabilities. The nominee will have gone above and beyond in their role, organisation or work place. The nominee may not previously have received any public recognition.
- 2021 Attitude Youth Award: They seek nominations for a person with a disability who is up to the age of 20, whose courage and determination will serve to inspire other young disabled Kiwi’s and reminds them of the power of the human spirit. They may be aspiring to be a future leader.
- 2021 Attitude Enterprise Award: They celebrate an employee or an entrepreneur with a disability. Through their efforts or initiative this person/persons has helped shape a positive view of disabled people in the workforce. They invite nominees from individuals or groups who have started their own business.
- 2021 Attitude ACC Employer Award: This award recognises an employer who provides outstanding recruitment and retention opportunities for people with disabilities. The employer is confident with the integration of workers with disabilities into the workplace and demonstrates an exemplary level of commitment, innovation and support for employees with disabilities.
- 2021 Attitude Community Champion Award: This is about Kiwis Helping Kiwis – someone who goes above and beyond to make a meaningful difference. They’re seeking an ordinary, yet exceptional, disability champion or volunteer, someone who has enriched the lives of a person or persons with disability.
- 2021 Attitude Sporting Endeavour Award: The Sporting Endeavour Award is open to both competitive athletes or passionate community participants, whose involvement in physical activity highlights the power of sport, and its role in wellbeing. The nomination needs to explain how this person has conquered physical, mental and/or intellectual challenges to be involved in sport.
- 2021 Spirit of Attitude Award: The Spirit of Attitude Award celebrates someone who has had a unique journey and has risen to the considerable challenges of their disability to achieve personal goals. In all areas of their life they have encompassed a positive ‘can-do’ spirit.
