Nominations open for Harbouring Connections Community Awards (UK)

Call for Nominations: Achievement Awards 2025

Deadline: 01-Aug-2025

Belfast Harbour has introduced the Harbouring Connections Community Awards to support grassroots community organisations and charities working collaboratively. These awards are designed to encourage partnerships between two or more local, not-for-profit organisations with a registered charity number or a recognised governing body.

The purpose of the awards is to strengthen community ties by bringing people of different backgrounds, age groups, skills, and interests together, creating shared experiences and deeper understanding. The initiative also supports building resilience within organisations by encouraging collaboration, sharing of best practices, and expanding participant outreach.

Three award categories are available: Supporting Employability and Skills, Supporting the Environment, and Building Vibrant Communities. A total of two grants, each up to £5,000, will be awarded (with a total fund of £10,000).

To be eligible, organisations must have charitable status or be affiliated with a governing body, must have existed for at least 24 months, and must provide financial records for at least one year. Applicants must also have an organisational bank account. Preference is given to inclusive projects benefiting all community members, regardless of age, gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, or religion.

The funding is not available to individuals, statutory bodies like schools or hospitals unless the project exceeds core duties, or for previously started or completed projects. It also cannot be used for land or building purchases, salaries, political or religious activities, or recurrent operational costs. Any project involving physical assets must include a maintenance plan.

An evaluation report is mandatory for all funded projects, and the final 20% of funding will only be released upon its submission. Applications must clearly demonstrate project feasibility, expected participation, and intended outcomes.
