Request for Applications: Amazon Film Grant

Small Grants Fund Program (Australia)

Deadline: 20-Aug-2025

One World Media has launched a new film grant for journalists and filmmakers working on environmental stories in South America. This opportunity is aimed at storytellers based in or reporting on the Amazon region, with a focus on creating a short documentary.

The grant supports films that explore the people, environments, and challenges of the Amazon rainforest. They are seeking character-driven stories centered on conservation, the threats to the ecosystem, and the communities whose lives are closely connected to the rainforest.

Possible story angles include wildlife, sustainable businesses and the bioeconomy, scientific research, design and construction, agriculture or fishing, and future food systems.

Selected filmmakers will receive up to $5,000 in funding, mentoring from experienced professionals, and executive producer support. Mongabay will host the finished films on its platforms and may provide additional assistance for travel and post-production.

Grantees will also take part in workshops and peer support activities through the One World Media Fellowship over the course of one year, and gain access to a global alumni network.

Eligible applicants must be journalists or filmmakers from, or reporting within, the Amazon region. This includes Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela, and French Guiana. Applicants should be mid-career professionals with at least three years of experience. The selected filmmaker will join the 2025 One World Media Fellowship.
