Deadline: 04-Nov-2025
The One Community Foundation is now requesting applications for its Household Support Fund Program to support local community groups and charities that are supporting vulnerable people with essential items such as food, gas, electricity etc.
This initiative aims to help prevent poverty and build local resilience by providing crucial resources to those most in need. The funding, provided by Kirklees Council and administered by One Community Foundation, is open to community groups and charities working to support vulnerable individuals with essential items like food, gas, electricity, and more. The grants available range from £2,000 to £10,000, and there will be two rounds of funding. Groups can apply for both rounds, regardless of whether they were successful in the first round.
The fund is designed to offer support across two key categories: Preventative Support and Crisis Support. The Preventative Support categories focus on activities that help residents avoid falling into crisis in the first place, while Crisis Support categories provide immediate assistance for individuals already in urgent need.
The Preventative Support categories include a range of activities that can help vulnerable people before they reach a point of crisis. These activities include advice services such as benefit maximisation, budgeting skills, and signposting to further support. The fund also supports skills development, with opportunities for cooking classes or digital skills training that can help improve self-sufficiency. Community infrastructure and support are also covered, with funding for community kitchens or events that raise awareness of available support services. Additionally, energy efficiency measures such as insulation or the installation of energy-efficient lightbulbs can help reduce household energy costs. The fund is also open to other preventative initiatives that don’t fall under these categories but are still aimed at preventing residents from falling further into hardship.
The Crisis Support categories are designed to provide immediate relief to those facing urgent needs. These include direct funding for energy and water bills, as well as supermarket vouchers for food or food parcels. The fund also supports the distribution of essential items like hygiene products or other single-use necessities. Any additional crisis-related support that addresses the immediate needs of vulnerable residents is also eligible for funding.
Eligible spend is flexible and can cover a wide variety of activities aimed at supporting vulnerable people in Kirklees. Whether providing advice services, building community resilience, or offering direct support to those in crisis, this fund provides valuable resources to ensure that vulnerable residents are not left without help during times of need.
