Applications are now open for the Young Political Leadership School Africa (YPLS-Africa) program, a program that contributes to the formation of a new generation of character-driven political and socially active leaders that would be accountable, responsive, and accessible to the needs and interests of their citizens and help to shape the future of their respective countries in the positive direction.
Over the course of one year, fellows engage in a series of theoretical and interactive exercises to develop their knowledge and skills to play greater leadership roles in political affairs.
Fellows also participate in grassroots campaign events during electoral periods in their countries. YPLS-Africa draws members of its cohort from across the region, not just Liberia.
The program includes the following:
- One-week Professional Development Training: Fellows participate in a week-long training to enhance their skills in Leadership, Elections, and Governance (LEG).
- Practicum (Leadership and Civic Engagement Events): Fellows participate in three-month civic engagement events in their respective countries or communities, and host policy debates and town hall meetings with stakeholders on electoral reform or campaign management.
- Mentorship and Internship: Fellows are placed at strategic national institutions to enhance their capacity and to learn by doing. They are supported to engage in various community organizing events and professional programs during the period of additional three months, mostly for female fellows based in Liberia.
Funding Information
- Shall contribute the amount of US$300.00 for the duration of the program.

Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants shall be a college graduate or middle-level professional below age 35,
- Shall be a resident of an African country and must demonstrate a high level of interest in politics, leadership, and civil society,
- Shall have the ability to communicate clearly and be proficient in reading and writing English,
- Shall demonstrate commitment to implementing practicum/follow-up events and actively engage in networking and the YPLS Africa Alumni Association,
- Women and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply,
- All international participants will be responsible for their travel and accommodation while in Liberia.
