BFJ launches “ReAction” Grant Program in Bulgaria

Call for Submissions: Baltic Sea Action Plan Fund

Deadline: 31-Dec-2025

The Bulgarian Fund for Women has announced a new funding opportunity through its “ReAction” program, developed to support fast, flexible responses to growing social and political challenges.

This initiative builds upon the success of the “Open Opportunities” program and is designed to empower grassroots action in times of crisis, providing timely support to those on the front lines of social change.

The program is open to organizations that want to act quickly and effectively when urgent situations arise. It provides up to 19,558 BGN (approximately €10,000) in financial support for a period of up to 12 months. Funding can be used to cover both direct and indirect costs (up to 7%), giving organizations the flexibility to act without delay. A key strength of this program is its rapid application process, with proposals reviewed within 14 days of submission, ensuring support reaches those who need it most, when they need it most.

The program specifically seeks local and national NGOs that are registered under the Non-Profit Organizations Act and operate in the public interest. Eligible organizations work in areas such as women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, refugee and migrant support, Roma inclusion, disability rights, media freedom, and climate justice. Experience managing large projects is not a requirement. The fund welcomes organizations that may not have an extensive project history but are deeply rooted in their communities, often operating under pressure or in marginalized or underserved regions.

Applications will be submitted through the Bulgarian Fund for Women’s online portal, where candidates must complete a short eligibility test, create a profile, and submit a proposal under the relevant thematic area. The total budget for the program is approximately 586,749 BGN, and applications will be accepted from September 11, 2025, until March 2028 or until funds are exhausted.

This program presents a vital opportunity for grassroots organizations in Bulgaria to receive the financial support they need to respond to urgent needs, protect human rights, and promote social justice — without being held back by bureaucracy or rigid procedures.
