The Treasures Within: an intersectoral project for Syria as a means for reconciliation and early recovery, UNESCO Beirut office launches a call to collect innovative youth-led and youth-targeting actions and partnership proposals as well as talents to create an environment in Syria where young women and men are empowered, heard, and engaged meaningfully for a better livelihood and in reconciliation and early recovery in Syria at a difficult time of COVID-19 pandemic.
The project (2021-2022) is carefully aligned with the draft National Framework of Action on Adolescent and Youth Development and Participation in Syriai and adheres to the Human Security approach. The project is supported by the Japanese Government’s Supplementary Fund.
Civil society groups, youth organizations, Faith-based organizations, Disabled Persons Organization (DPO) and community based organizations registered in Syria under the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MOSAL), private university as wellas research center can submit a proposal.
The proposal should focus on Young men and women at the core of the project:
- Youth-led social innovation and creativity to address emerging issues and promoting human rights
- Youth volunteerism and engagement to reach out to the vulnerable population groups
- Youth-targeting – Empowerment of young men and women through participation. Gender quality is UNESCO’s priority.
A proposal should feed the project priorities. One proposal should address only one priority. One organization can submit up to 3 proposals.
- Development of youth life skills
- Promoting social cohesion through Arts and creativity
- Community and local actions to promote urban inclusion
- Promotion of Rights of Young Persons with Disabilities (PWD)
- Quality Physical Education and sports for peace
- Social media campaign to promote youth participation
- Research and dialogue to promote social inclusion
- Youth age is defined 15-29 years in Syria.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this call, the following criteria need to be met:
- A registered civil society organization, NGO, Private university or center (research, academic, etc.) based in Syria (ideally youth-led or at least 50% of active members are youth).
- Proposals that involve partners (and youth) from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds are encouraged (host community youth – displaced youth).
- Proposed project able to be implemented immediately and to be finalized by December 2021.
- Previous experience in youth and community projects and activities in Damascus and Aleppo
- Previous experience working with UN organizations is preferable.
- Capability to communicate and work well in both English and in Arabic.
