Australian High Commission launches Direct Aid Program

The USAID Begins Search for New NGO Partners for 2023: Start Applying Now!

Deadline: 31-Jul-2025

The Australian High Commission in the Republic of Kenya is inviting applications for the Direct Aid Program (DAP), which offers financial assistance to eligible groups or organizations for small-scale development projects. This program supports initiatives that directly benefit local communities in need across East Africa.

The DAP focuses on projects that address climate change, environmental protection, and biodiversity. It also supports activities that develop skills for economic empowerment, including projects in the blue economy, sports, and media. Other priority areas include the promotion of human rights, governance, social inclusion, and efforts to counter violent extremism.

Grants of up to AUD 60,000 are available. All projects must have clear, achievable objectives and measurable outcomes. Proposals must include a detailed project description, expected benefits, and a full financial breakdown of costs.

Applicants must also provide a policy for Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment, as well as a risk management strategy—particularly when the project involves children. The implementation period for any project should not exceed two years.

To qualify, projects must take place in one or more of the following countries: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, or Uganda. Proposals should be complete, demonstrating strong potential for local impact within the project timeframe.
