U.S. Embassy Bucharest Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program (Romania)

Call for Applications: Limerick Grants Under the Arts Act Funding Scheme in Ireland

Deadline: 31-Jul-2025

The U.S. Embassy Bucharest Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) has announced funding availability through its Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program. This opportunity supports projects that advance U.S. foreign policy goals and strengthen the relationship between the United States and Romania. The aim is to contribute to a safer, stronger, and more prosperous America and Romania through educational and cultural programming that highlights shared values and encourages bilateral cooperation.

Eligible proposals must include a strong American cultural element or a connection with American experts, organizations, or institutions. These components should help promote a deeper understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives. Projects that align with this objective are encouraged to apply.

The program prioritizes areas that support U.S. and international peace and security, such as media literacy, countering foreign malign influence, and cybersecurity education. It also welcomes proposals that promote democracy and the rule of law through civic education, youth leadership, and a free, independent press. Another key focus is strengthening economic prosperity via economic education, energy security, and STEM initiatives.

A total of $200,000 in funding is available. Grant amounts will range from a minimum of $8,000 to a maximum of $20,000. The project performance period must be between 6 and 12 months.

Examples of eligible projects include academic and professional lectures, cultural workshops, joint performances, conservation efforts, exchanges, and NGO programs that promote U.S. values. Projects should seek to engage youth, young professionals, community leaders, journalists, educators, and others connected to the U.S.–Romania partnership. Special consideration will be given to proposals that include activities outside of Bucharest.

Applicants must be registered non-profit organizations from Romania or the United States, including think tanks, NGOs, educational and cultural institutions with relevant programming experience. Multiple proposals are allowed, but funding will be distributed to ensure a diverse range of recipients.

Projects that involve partisan politics, charity, construction, religious activities, fundraising, lobbying, or scientific research are not eligible for funding.
