Applications are open for 2017 Women in Science (WiSci) Girls Steam Camp with an aim to help close the gender gap through access to education, mentorship opportunities and leadership training.
The camp will include a STEAM curriculum led by experts in their fields, as well as leadership development activities and learning excursions within Malawi. 2017 WiSci Girls STEAM Camp held in Malawi from July 30 – August 15, 2017.
Benefits
- All selected participants will receive a scholarship to attend the camp free of charge.
- All costs associated with lodging, food, and activities during the camp are covered through the support of partners, in addition to transportation to/from the capital city of your home country (origin of departure).
- Selected participants will be expected to pay for transportation to their country’s capital city from their hometown for their departure flight to Malawi. Similarly, selected participants will be expected to pay for transportation to their hometown from their country’s capital city following their return flight from Malawi.
Eligibility Criteria
- WiSci strongly encourages all eligible candidates to apply without regards to race, ethnicity, religion, disability, income-level or level of STEAM experience.
- Applicants must be a self-identified girl between the ages of 15 to 18 during the time of camp
- Applicants must be a citizen of Malawi, Liberia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia or the United States of America.
- Applicants must have the expressed permission of a parent or guardian.
- Applicants can obtain regular access (at least once per week) to the internet.
- Applicants are able to attend the full duration of camp and have permission from my school if the dates conflict with my classes.
- Applicants have at least one year of secondary school still left to complete.
- Applicants have never participated in the WiSci: Girls STEAM Camp before.
- Applicants have an interest in the STEAM fields and demonstrated leadership potential.
- Applicants are able to obtain a passport to travel to Malawi by May 20, 2017, or have a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond July 2017.
