The Australian Communities Foundation is accepting applications for its Action-Oriented Education on Regenerative Farming Program.
The proposal is driven by concerns that 18.4% of global greenhouse gas emissions are generated by agriculture, forestry and land use (Ritchie, H, 2020). Regenerative farming enables Australia's food systems to become more resilient and adaptable to climate change.
Persistent exposure to say climate change warnings by scientists has inadvertently led to eco-anxiety in children – the 'chronic fear of environmental doom' (Clayton, S. et al, 2017). The proposal strives to reverse this by building teacher capacity to improve educational, personal and social outcomes for students. They will redress the absence of teacher resources on contemporary regenerative farming practices.
Cool Australia will partner with The Conversation and other experts to ensure the resources contain evidence-based knowledge. They will collaborate with teachers to ensure the resources are fit for purpose and easy to use. The unique action-oriented pedagogical model will engage and empower students, families and broader communities to practice regenerative farming.

Project Outcomes

They anticipate the following short-term outcomes:
- Teachers access high-quality resources on regenerative farming, regardless of their school's socio-economic status or geographical location.
- Students, teachers and the broader school community have an increased understanding of the latest evidence, research and real-world success stories on regenerative farming.
- Students learn how to become change-makers in their homes and local communities.

They will measure the short-term outcomes through:
- Data collection tools that measure educator usage, downloads, students reached, geographical location and school sector.
- Teacher surveys that evaluate changes in students' knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and preparedness to take action.
- Teacher surveys that assess the social impact of the resources.

Longer-term outcomes include:
- Reduced eco-anxiety in students.
- Teachers, parents and families are empowered to advocate for or practice regenerative farming techniques.

These will lead to:
- A shift to sustainable farming practices.
- Increased carbon sequestration due to healthy soils and less deforestation.
- Food systems that are safer, more reliable, adaptable and resilient.
