Applications open for Broadcast Funding Program – South Africa

Apply for the 2023 Jamlab Accelerator Programme

Deadline: 01-Aug-2025

The Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) is now accepting applications for its 2025/26 Broadcast Funding Program. The call for grant applications is open for four weeks, running from 4 July to 1 August 2025.

This opportunity is directed at community media projects holding a valid Class Broadcast Service Licence. Eligible applicants include community radio and TV stations, community print publications, and small commercial print outlets.

To help guide applicants, MDDA will host two virtual information sessions. These will focus on the compliance requirements necessary for funding and give participants the chance to ask questions and seek clarification.

Applications must be submitted via the MDDA website. The portal is open to organizations in the following categories: community broadcast (TV and radio), community print publications, and small commercial print publications.

Applications will be evaluated on how well the project promotes media development and diversity, and its potential impact on historically disadvantaged communities and those underrepresented in the media.

Applicants must submit an affidavit confirming they are not owned or controlled by major commercial media entities, political parties, or government bodies. Required documentation includes a detailed business plan with 3-year financial projections, a budget using the official template, a copy of the broadcast licence, a programming schedule, and up to four CVs of key personnel.
