Call for EOIs: Developing STEAM skills in secondary school and the initiative +ChicasTec in Peru

2nd Open Call for MASTER Project

Deadline: 01-Aug-2025

This Call for Expressions of Interest aims to expand the work of +ChicasTec from Lima to the Loreto region, where adolescents—especially girls—face even greater barriers to accessing science and technology education. The project seeks to promote scientific and technological vocations by enhancing the teaching and implementation of STEAM projects in Loreto’s secondary schools, adapting the successful +ChicasTec approach to local needs.

The initiative focuses on general education and skills development for adolescents, especially girls, and is backed by a reference budget of S/1,600,000. Initially, an agreement will be signed for the first year (8 months), with a budget of S/430,000. The geographical focus is exclusively in Loreto, Peru.

The project contributes to Output 2.2 of UNICEF’s Cooperation Programme, aiming to help adolescents complete secondary education and improve their chances of future employment. The expected impact includes five secondary schools implementing STEAM-based teaching in core subjects like Math, Science, Communication, and Technology. Around 1,000 first- and second-year students are expected to benefit, with enhanced learning and engagement in science and tech.

Additionally, 60 school leaders, teachers, specialists, and education officials will be trained to empower adolescents through STEAM methods. At least 15 educational innovation projects will be created and submitted to national or regional competitions like those by FONDEP, CONCYTEC, or MINEDU.

Eligible applicants include civil society organizations with proven technical skills in STEAM education and gender-focused approaches, experience in Loreto, and a track record of working with secondary schools or CETPROS in teacher training, educational support, and family engagement. Organizations without any experience in Loreto in the past five years, or those lacking formal authorization to work with UNICEF and receive international cooperation funds via SUNAT and APCI, will not be considered.
