Call for Proposals: Equinox Open Source Grant Program (US)

Small Grant Program for Local Coding Projects within the EU Code Week Initiative - Croatia and Slovenia

Deadline: 14-Nov-2025

The Equinox Open Source Grant provides essential technical services and resources to help libraries and archives implement the Koha integrated library system at no cost.

The focus areas of this program is Hosting and Support services for Koha, Migration and Implementation of the new Koha ILS, End user training on Koha.

This grant opportunity is designed for U.S.-based organizations that are either registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits or federal, state, local, or tribal government entities. To qualify, applicants must have a library or archives collection with no more than 50,000 items. If the collection is not yet cataloged in an ILS, it must be in a condition where cataloging can be completed and made accessible to the public or intended user group by the end of the first grant year.

Organizations must also demonstrate financial need, showing they are unable to afford full commercial hosting services or the infrastructure to manage a system in-house. Current Equinox customers typically do not meet this requirement, though they are permitted to inquire about their eligibility.

Eligible applicants must also meet certain technical and staffing criteria as outlined in the application. This includes appointing a designated account management contact who will be responsible for regular reporting throughout the grant term. It is the grantee’s responsibility to keep Equinox informed if this contact changes.

Grant recipients will receive comprehensive support including hosting, full migration and implementation of the Koha system, and end user training. In addition to these services, recipients are expected to take part in marketing and promotional activities throughout the duration of the grant. These contributions may include quotes, images, social media content, articles, and conference presentations.
