The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) launches the second Call for Nominations for the Indigenous Peoples Awards to recognize the efforts and achievements of development projects that successfully engage with Indigenous Peoples (IPs) living in rural areas.
The Fund promote best practices, share knowledge and identify opportunities to replicate and scale-up results.
Nominations will be assessed according to criteria identified on the basis of the overall theme of the sixth global meeting of the Indigenous Peoples Forum at IFAD (IPFI): “Indigenous Peoples’ Climate Leadership: Community-based solutions to enhance resilience and biodiversity”.
The winning projects will be captured in a professional video and/or will be invited to participate in the sixth global meeting of the IPFI.
The awards are organized by IFAD’s Indigenous Peoples team in partnership with members of the Indigenous Peoples’ Forum at IFAD and the Board of the Indigenous Peoples Assistance Facility (IPAF).
Award Categories
- Best performing IFAD-funded project
- Best performing non-IFAD-funded project
- Best performing IPAF-funded project
Eligibility Criteria
- Best performing non-IFAD-funded project: IFAD staff, project management staff
- Best performing IPAF-funded project: IPs or ethnic minorities’ organizations, communities, groups or associations implementing projects in rural areas of countries where IFAD operates
- Best performing IPAF-funded project: Organizations implementing projects during the 2019 IPAF cycle
Selection Criteria
Nominations will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Project’s contribution to the advancement of Indigenous Peoples’ conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity for adaptation and resilience to climate change. The extent to which the nominated project has promoted the conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity, and the expected results in terms of enhanced adaptation and resilience to climate change for Indigenous Peoples’ communities and sustainable management of biodiversity.
- Project’s contribution to the creation of a sustainable livelihood. The extent to which the nominated project has promoted the creation of indigenous economies through the protection of the ecosystem and biodiversity, by enhancing sustainable livelihoods, and promoting new employments.
- Project’s results and main achievements: The extent to which the nominated project has resulted in a measurable and positive impact in promoting Indigenous Peoples’ right to self-determination.
Particular attention will be also given to the project’s scalability and/or replicability aspect(s), assessing the extent to which the nominated project or its innovations can be scaled up and/or replicated elsewhere. In addition, special relevance will be given to projects that prioritize social inclusion issues, such as in the case of indigenous women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
