Call for Proposals: Best Practices for Fire Prevention and Management

#image_title

Deadline: 26-Sep-2025

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), a global initiative supported by partners such as the European Union, Conservation International, the Global Environment Facility, and the World Bank, has announced a new consultancy opportunity in the Tropical Andes Biodiversity Hotspot.

This call seeks a consultant or firm to develop a knowledge product on gender-responsive conservation and sustainable biodiversity use, with a specific focus on fire prevention and management.

The CEPF program is designed to empower civil society organizations to play a leading role in conserving biodiversity in some of the world’s most critical ecosystems. In the Tropical Andes, local grantees have developed innovative strategies to address the growing threat of fires, integrating community-based approaches with broader conservation practices. CEPF now aims to document these strategies and share them widely as a resource for practitioners both within and outside the Andes.

The knowledge product will target technical staff from civil society organizations working in biodiversity conservation. It will highlight successful methods, activities, challenges, and lessons learned, providing a practical guide to fire prevention and management that can be replicated in other biodiversity hotspots. The format of the product is flexible and may take the form of a manual, report, video, or another innovative medium.

To create this resource, the consultant will review existing reports and outputs from CEPF grantees in the Tropical Andes, as well as relevant materials from other regions such as the Cerrado Hotspot, where fire management is also a priority. A key part of the consultancy will include facilitating an in-person roundtable in Peru during the final assessment of the Tropical Andes investment in late October 2025. This roundtable will bring together organizations such as Fundación Ecológica Arcoiris, Yunkawasi, Fundación Amaru, and others to share strategies and experiences.

The consultancy will run from 1 October to 30 November 2025, with an estimated 20 days of work. Draft deliverables must be submitted by 15 November, with final products due at the end of the month. The resource will be produced in Spanish and shared electronically via the CEPF website, as well as through innovative channels such as social media videos, online toolkits, and presentations at international forums.

By commissioning this knowledge product, CEPF seeks to ensure that lessons from the Tropical Andes can inform fire prevention strategies globally, while also advancing gender-responsive conservation approaches that empower local communities and protect biodiversity.
