The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced a call for proposals for the Fight Against Vulnerabilities and Risks related to Climate Change in Vulnerable Coastal Areas of Tunisia to promote innovative strategies, technologies and financing options to respond to the risks of climate change and their impacts on the populations and the main socio-economic sectors of the most vulnerable coastal areas.
This opportunity will allow the Civil Society Organization, selected, through a three-year work plan to implement several activities related to the theme of “Coastal Resilience” for the benefit of the various stakeholders and the local population to strengthen their resilience to the effects of climate change.
The project focuses on three areas for the long-term resilience of coastal areas to climate change:
- Improving the institutional capacity for planning and responding to increased risks due to climate change in coastal areas;
- Improving the resilience of priority coastal areas to climate change through the implementation and dissemination of innovative risk reduction measures. The planned activities will concern 22 km of coastline, 670 hectares of wetlands and will involve 150,000 inhabitants; With an emphasis on two pilot areas which are the island of Djerba and the northwest coast of the Gulf of Tunis (Kalaât El Andalous-Ghar el Melh-Sidi Ali El Mekki);
- The establishment of innovative and sustainable economic and financial instruments to accelerate the adoption of coastal adaptation measures.
Expected Results
To achieve the expected result, the OSC is called to:
- Provide an animation and scientific support program for visitors;
- Provide at least three events annually related to the aforementioned themes; – Guarantee the good management, maintenance and cleanliness of the interior and exterior spaces
- Ensure the good use of the local refreshment bar and put it at the service of visitors during the opening hours of the center;
- Guarantee the centre’s influence on its environment, through continuous dissemination of information via the mass media and the establishment of cooperation links with public / private actors, such as local communities, research institutions and education, national and international NGOs, etc., in perfect coordination with ‘APAL, while categorically avoiding any action that could damage the reputation of APAL, or its partners or the reception center.
This call for expression of interest defines the rules for submission, the eligibility and selection criteria of a civil society organization based in Djerba, and which is interested in benefiting from the provision of the premises of the center. ‘reception through an entertainment program and a general maintenance commitment through a partnership agreement with APAL.
Duration
- The duration planned for this partnership agreement with APAL is 3 years.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must meet the following conditions:
- Be a civil society organization whose head office and activities are based on the island of Djerba;
- Be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action and not be limited to an intermediary role;
- Be independent from political parties / movements;
- Compliance with the provisions of Law No. 2018-48 relating to the declaration of assets and interests, the fight against illicit enrichment and conflict of interest.
- Have a clear organization of its management office.
- Have sufficient and stable sources of funding to ensure the ongoing management of the reception center.
