The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund is seeking applications for Healthy Schools: Improving Conditions in Centers Educational to Strengthen Resilience and Prevent Diseases Derived from the Lack of Adequate Services ASH in 52 schools (Lot 1) Chichicastenango, Quiché.
When girls and boys are provided with access to safe water, sanitation and adequate facilities for the development of hygiene practices in educational units, they have a favorable environment to study, learn and develop their full potential, while providing more opportunities for girls to attend school during their periods.
To ensure that girls and boys in 53 schools in the municipality of Chichicastenango have access to a school environment that contributes to improving their health and education through adequate drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene services, as well as the promotion of hygiene, health, and menstrual hygiene.

Expected results
- To achieve the general objective, UNICEF is proposing the development of a comprehensive intervention in the schools identified and prioritized by the Ministry of Education in the municipality of Chichicastenango through two outcomes:
- Improved student access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
- No. of children accessing adequate WASH facilities and hygiene services in learning facilities and safe spaces Target: 4,770 children and adolescents.
- Improved knowledge of students and the community on hygiene, health and menstrual hygiene through community mobilization and advocacy
- No. of children access adequate hygiene and health knowledge. Target: 4,770 children and adolescents
- No. of children accessing adequate health information on menstrual hygiene in learning facilities and safe spaces. Target: 1,325 children and adolescents
- No. of teachers trained to promote and incorporate hygiene, health and menstrual hygiene content in the EU Target: 200 teachers
- Improved student access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services.
