The Asfari Foundation (AF) is seeking proposals from interested organisations for the ‘2022 Social Entrepreneurship Fellowship Programme’.
The aim of the fellowship will be to support aspiring entrepreneurs and Local Civil Society Organisations (LCSOs) to develop solutions or services that strengthens LCSOs sustainability and their impact. It will be a great opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to experiment and learn in a supportive space and for LCSOs to learn about entrepreneurial frameworks and tools and to ideally pilot something new. It will be followed by a hackathon and an accelerator.
Overview
- This fellowship will offer 10+1- social entrepreneurs and 10+1- local civil society organisations (LCSOs), and in some exceptions private companies, the opportunity to work together.
- The social entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to learn about social issues they care about, best practices to overcome it, access to know how and communities that might support in developing a viable product or solution.
- On the other hand, it will offer LCSOs the opportunity to learn from the social entrepreneur entrepreneurial frameworks and tools supporting the organisation develop an innovative activity or service that matches their expertise and meets their communities’ needs while enabling them to be more sustainable.
- Fellows and LCSOs are expected to continue to engage in activities through a subsequent hackathon and accelerator and eventually get the chance to receive multiyear organisational development grant from AF.
Thematic Focus
- Entrepreneurs:
- Are Jordanians, Lebanese, Palestinians, or Syrians with interests in Governance, Independent Media, Active Citizenship, Education/Lifelong learning (including EdTech/TechEd), Entrepreneurship, and Innovation.
- Should have clear understanding of what are the entrepreneurial frameworks, tools and mindsets that support their journey to success.
- Should be willing to support their host with tools and know how in developing entrepreneurial solutions to the social challenges they address.
- Will be offered a stiped up to $500 per month (T&Cs apply).
- Must show interest in continuing building their idea after the fellowship programme is over.
- Must be willing to develop a learning content at the end of the programme summarising their learning from it to benefit others.
- Multiple entrepreneurs working on the same idea can be housed at the same organisation/company.
- Entrepreneurs cannot be employed by the LCSO/company they will do the fellowship with.
- Fellowship could be part time or full time but a minimum of 1 day per week is required.
- LCSOs:
- Should be registered organisations working in the youth and civil society sectors on the following themes: Governance, Independent Media, Active Citizenship, Lifelong learning (EdTech/TechEd), Entrepreneurship, and Innovation.
- Should be non-profits and/or social enterprises. They will prioritise small and medium-sized organisations, but all organisations are welcome to apply, regardless of their annual budget.
- Should be willing to host and mentor an entrepreneur by sharing expertise and know how in their field of work.
- Should be founded by Jordanians, Lebanese, Palestinians, or Syrians and working in Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, or be Syrian-founded and based anywhere, focused on supporting those in the Levant region.
- Current partners of the Foundation are welcome to apply but may not be eligible for grants in the later stages.
- Must be willing to develop a learning content at the end of the programme summarising their learning from it to benefit others.
- Multiple LCSOs can host one entrepreneur.
- Private companies:
- Should be registered and working on social, economic, or environmental challenges.
- Should be willing to host and mentor an entrepreneur by sharing expertise and know how in their field of work.
- Must be willing to develop a learning content at the end of the programme summarising their learning from it to benefit others.
- Multiple companies can host one entrepreneur.
- Companies will be eligible to take part in the hackathon and accelerator if they will continue to host the entrepreneur.
Criteria
- Both entrepreneurs and LCSOs must apply to express their interest in joining the fellowship.
- Entrepreneurs can work with a LCSOs of their choice if there is a mutual agreement between both parties and the LCSO meets the Foundation’s criteria and thematic focus.
- Entrepreneurs can also work with a private company of their choice. They must demonstrate the benefit of working with a private company clearly linking it to the social/economic/environmental challenge they are focusing on.
- LCSO may also work with entrepreneurs of their own choice if there is a mutual agreement between both parties and the entrepreneur meets the Foundation’s criteria and thematic focus.
