Deadline: 30-Apr-23
For the year 2023, the International Journalists Program (IJP) is advertising its scholarship program for Eastern Europe for the twenty-second time.
The Marion Gräfin Dönhoff journalist grant gives German journalists the opportunity to work as guest editors in an Eastern European or Baltic editorial office for two months. Because of the war in Ukraine, in 2023 German scholarship holders will be accommodated primarily in the three Caucasian republics and in Moldova. The safety of the scholarship holders has top priority. Furthermore, Germans can also apply to journalists who work together with Eastern European colleagues on joint projects (e.g. situation of Ukrainian refugees in the West, in Moldova, etc.). The grant amount will then be adjusted accordingly.
The basis of every scholarship is the implementation in a safe environment.
At the same time, this scholarship is being advertised for journalists from Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and the former Central Asian CIS countries and the Baltic States, who can apply for a two-month work stay in Germany.
Due to the war, Ukrainian, Belarusian or Russian journalists who are fleeing and/or in Germany/abroad can also apply.
Objectives
The IJP, a non-profit association, offers scholarship programs for young journalists. These exchange programs make it possible to get to know a country as a guest reporter in a renowned medium on a bilateral basis. The scholarship is intended to give young, ambitious journalists from Germany and Eastern Europe the opportunity to gain a personal impression of current political, economic and cultural developments and backgrounds as well as everyday social life in the other country. Usually it offers the unique opportunity to work in a foreign journalistic working environment and to get an insight into the media landscape in the host country. Against the background of the war, however, cutbacks have to be accepted with this request.
