The International Renaissance Foundation announces a scholarship competition for video bloggers who create or plan to create content about Ukraine in English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic and other languages, but not Russian.
The priority video blogging platform is YouTube, but they also accept applications from bloggers working on TikTok.
Part of the scholarships will be given to channels that already host foreign language content, and part will be given to popular channels that are ready to start creating such content.
Funding Information
- The size of the scholarship can be from 100,000 to 180,000 hryvnias and will depend on the content of the application, the proposed budget and the popularity of the channel. After the publication of the planned videos, the grantees must provide a descriptive report and documents to confirm the expenses.
- The advantages will be:
- Availability of foreign language content uploaded to the channel by 10/31/2022;
- A large number of subscribers;
- The presence of an active community of the channel and patrons on Patreon;
- If the content that the channel produces or plans to produce will be produced in languages other than English (French, Italian, Spanish, etc.).
- They expect bloggers to have a clear understanding of their overseas audience and how to promote content to these audiences.
- Authors of Ukrainian-language channels who want to create content in other languages can post videos on special newly created channels for foreign-language audiences. However, in this case, they expect that part of the scholarship funds will be spent on advertising and promotion of the new channel.
Scholarships can be spent on:
- Payment for filming, editing, motion design, etc. services, which are documented;
- Advertising on Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter;
- Purchase of filming equipment;
- Payment for travel within Ukraine, necessary for filming the video;
Scholarships may NOT be spent on:
- Payment for any Russian services, advertising in Russian social networks, advertising integrations in Telegram;
- Purchase of goods or purchase of services that are not related to the creation of video content;
- Payment for services or goods that will not be documented.
Eligibility Criteria
- Requirements for applicants:
- The presence of an active channel with video content that has been updated for the past 3 months;
- The age of the channel is not less than 6 months;
- Thematic direction of content to counteract the information war, namely: reflecting the real state of affairs in Ukraine, debunking Russian disinformation, promoting Ukraine, its history and culture, or revealing the imperial colonial essence of modern Russia to international audiences;
- The values of the channel coincide with the values of democracy and open society (any criticism of the occupiers does not violate these values);
- The channel hosts only author’s content and uses other people’s copyright products only under fair use conditions;
- Have a plan for creating foreign language content;
- Be a citizen of Ukraine or a tax resident of Ukraine.
