Teach For Bangladesh Fellowship Program

Applications are now open for the Teach for Bangladesh Fellowship Program, a leadership development program for outstanding university graduates and young professionals who are looking for a personal and professional challenge while working to end educational inequity in Bangladesh.

Fellows work full-time for two years as teachers in low-income schools across Dhaka and Chattogram. During the Fellowship, they also take weekly courses to complete a diploma in Educational Leadership, Planning, and Management through the BRAC Institute of Educational Development, which strengthens their understanding of the landscape of education in the country.

Teach For Bangladesh will administer extensive training to ensure that all Fellows have the knowledge and skills necessary to lead their students to significant academic gains in the classroom. Prior to beginning their teaching assignment in January, all Fellows will attend a mandatory six-week residential training course from the end of October to early November, known as Winter Academy. The Winter Academy is designed to help Fellows acquire essential teaching frameworks, curricula, and lesson planning skills. Fellows will student-teach and work with veteran teachers who will observe and coach them to improve their skills. Teach For Bangladesh also provides intensive one-on-one and group support to Fellows during the course of their Fellowship. In most cases, each Fellow will be placed with at least one other Fellow in their placement school. Teach For Bangladesh will work to create spaces and opportunities for peer-to-peer collaboration both within Teach For Bangladesh and with other participants in partner programs across the Teach For All global network.

You will teach core subjects like English, Bengali, Mathematics, Science, and Social science in urban schools that serve underserved children in Dhaka and Chattogram.

• Empower Students: TFB Fellows are first and foremost educators who believe that all children are capable of excellence. During the Fellowship, they learn the building blocks of great teaching, and work relentlessly to ensure their students’ learning and growth. They build classrooms that are welcoming and joyful, where all children develop confidence, communication, critical thinking, and socioemotional skills alongside their academics. Their Fellows help students unlock their own leadership potential and discover their ability to create change in the world around them.
• Partner with Communities: They believe that students and communities are the true leaders of the movement for equity. TFB Fellows work tirelessly to build authentic relationships with students, parents, and other community members. Every year, Fellows support student-led community-service projects to address fundamental challenges such as health and hygiene, student safety, gender equity, waste management, recycling, climate change, etc. Fellows create a positive impact in communities and building student leadership in the process.
• Support Schools: Fellows are integral members of their school team, reporting to the school head teacher (in addition to their TFB manager), and working alongside other school colleagues. This is a unique opportunity for Fellows to understand schools from the inside out, learn from the veteran teachers, collaborate on school-wide initiatives, and share innovations & best practices with others. Their Fellows cultivate strong school relationships to have a far greater impact as well as learning.

Teach for Bangladesh will guide and support your development as a teacher and leader

• Pre-Service Training: The Fellowship journey starts with a six-week pre-service training called “Winter Academy” that will prepare you to provide your students with a high-quality education, and to pursue a lifetime commitment to advancing educational equity and excellence.
• Individual And Group Coaching: When you start your Fellowship, you will join a Learning Circle of peers, managed by a Teaching & Leadership Coach. Your Coach will be your primary manager throughout your Fellowship, and will provide some individualized feedback and support, and also facilitate group learning spaces.
• Ongoing Professional Development Sessions: Usually every month there are workshops and seminars organized (virtually and in-person in your placement region) that are designed to help you strengthen your practice and effectiveness as a teacher and a leader over the course of your two year commitment.
• Post-Graduate Diploma In Educational Leadership: Once admitted into the Fellowship, you will also be enrolled into a Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Educational Leadership and School Improvement at BRAC Institute of Educational Development (BIED). Classes usually commence 2-4 months after you begin teaching in your placement school, and typically take place one evening a week.
• Opportunities Through Teach For All: Joining the TFB Fellowship means joining a global network of like-minded leaders. Teach For All offers many unique opportunities for learning, sharing and networking both virtually and through in-person travel. During the Fellowship, you can leverage these opportunities to broaden your horizons and develop your skills as an educator.

Duration: No. The Teach For Bangladesh Fellowship lasts for two years, and all participants are required to make a commitment to complete the full length of the program. Each year, internship positions are available for qualified individuals looking to contribute for shorter durations. Internship positions will be posted on their career page as they become available.

Eligibility Criteria

• The minimum requirement to apply for The TFB Fellowship is a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. The Fellowship is open only to Bangladeshi nationals, dual citizens who hold a Bangladeshi passport, and foreign nationals of Bangladeshi origin who have a “No Visa Required” seal on their passport.
• Fellows are required to be highly proficient in Bangla as most of their partner schools are government-run and follow a Bangla-medium curriculum. That’s why Fellows must be comfortable reading, speaking, and writing Bangla. While limited placements are available to teach English-medium curriculum Fellows working in these schools must still have strong oral communication skills in Bangla to interact effectively with students, parents, and other faculties.
