The Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) and CRDF Global are currently accepting applications for its Women in Science Fellowship (WIS) Program in order to promote peace and prosperity through international science collaboration.
Goals
- Fill the gap between the number of women graduating from universities and the number of women effectively present and active in the research workforce in the natural sciences and engineering
- Expose WIS fellows to university research environments under the mentorship of leading female researchers in the U.S
- Establish sustainable joint U.S. – Qatari research collaborations

- Ecology of Infectious Diseases
- Ecological factors contributing to the spread of emerging regional viruses (e.g. Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Coronavirus, Influenza)
- Vector-borne diseases/Arbo-viral infection in relation to disease
- Increasing acquired antibiotic resistance
- Companion disease infections
- Cyber-security
- Cybersecurity as it relates to health, workforce development, education, and energy
- Materials Science in Energy
- Nanomaterials for energy
- Creation and improvement of solar cells
Benefits
The Program will coordinate all necessary travel arrangements and accommodations (travel expenses, lodging, medical insurance and living stipends) for all selected fellows for the duration of the fellowship.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a Qatari or Qatar-born woman currently residing in Qatar.
- Have graduated with a Master of Science (MSc) or be a current PhD student in a field related directly to one of the four program areas listed above.
- Propose research that aligns with your academic background in one of the following fields listed above.
- Possess advanced proficiency in English (speaking, writing, and reading to be able to communicate with peers in host laboratories in the U.S.).
- Prove eligibility for a U.S. J-1 visa, including passing a medical exam after program selection (applicants must currently reside in Qatar and are required to return to Qatar after program completion).
- Submit an approval from their university/employer along with the application.
