Sanofi U.S. is excited to announce the 2023 Health Equity Accelerator Awards.
At Sanofi, they believe every person has the right to a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible, and no one should be disadvantaged from getting the care they deserve.
Goal: Accelerate health equity so all patients have access to transformative medicines and vaccines.
They created the Health Equity Accelerator Awards to encourage and support the efforts of US advocacy groups. The advocacy community actively engages with patients and caregivers in underserved communities to address inequities. Alongside this progress, there is opportunity to apply learned experiences and bring new thinking to solve the many challenges that limit peoples’ access to care.
They are pleased to continue the Health Equity Accelerator Awards. This year 10 awards will be given to US advocacy groups for innovative programs that address specific health disparity challenges impacting underserved populations.
Health disparity challenges
- Hemophilia: Provide education and support for people with Hemophilia living in rural areas through innovative collaborations
- Hemophilia: Improve diagnosis and delivery of equitable care for women, girls, or persons with the potential for menstruation with normal factor levels through innovative collaborations
- Immunization – Influenza: Improve Influenza Immunization Rates in underserved communities* for adults 50, living with Heart Disease, Diabetes, Asthma and Chronic Kidney Diseases
- Immunization – Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV): Improve community education on Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) for all infant protection in underserved communities*
- Lung Cancer: Provide innovative patient navigation approaches to overcome barriers to biomarker testing to increase personalized treatment for underserved communities* with Lung Cancer
- Multiple Myeloma: Provide innovative patient navigation approaches to ensure treatment decisions are based on patient preferences and needs, for underserved communities* with Multiple Myeloma
- Multiple Sclerosis: Increase awareness and earlier diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in Communities of Color† or rural communities
- Specialty Medicine: Improve availability to specialist healthcare professionals for underserved communities
- T1 Diabetes: Improve awareness and screening for T1 Diabetes for underserved Communities of Color†
- Transplant: Increase stem cell and kidney donations and patients’ awareness of transplantation as a treatment option in Communities of Color†
- *Underserved populations/communities encompass people that experience health disparities, barriers, or inequitable limitations in access to care that prevents them from achieving their full health potential. This includes historically disadvantaged populations such as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC); individuals living with poverty or socioeconomic constraints; people facing disparities due to age, gender or geographical location; new mothers and women with children; people who identify as LGBTQ+; people living with disabilities; individuals with limited English proficiency; and other vulnerable populations who encounter barriers in equitable access to health care.
- †Communities of Color refers to people who identify as Black, African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Hispanic, Latin American, East Asian, South Asian, Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander, or other people of color.
Benefits
- US-based non-profit advocacy organizations are invited to apply by proposing innovative programs to address these challenges. A panel of judges will select a winner for each challenge category based on evaluation criteria, and the corresponding non-profit organizations will receive a $50,000 healthcare contribution from Sanofi.
Eligibility Criteria
- Requirements for applicants and award recipients of the Sanofi Health Equity Accelerator Awards program are listed.
- Applicants must be a US-based non-profit advocacy organization
- Proposed programs must be US-focused
- Each proposed program must be submitted as a separate application against a single challenge
- No limit to the number of applications a single organization can submit
- Programs can be implemented alone or in partnership with multiple organizations. Only one application should be submitted by a single organization on behalf of all partners.
- Programs that have received funding from Sanofi in the past 12 months are not eligible for the award
- If selected as a winner, the lead organization must meet the organizational requirements and would receive the financial award
- Awards funding needs to adhere to Sanofi guidelines on independent Healthcare Contributions
- Employees, former employees, or relatives of Sanofi employees may not submit an application
- Research projects will not be considered.
Criteria and Judges
- Criteria to be used by the judges:
- Aligns to the stated health equity challenge
- Exhibits a clear definition and understanding of the challenge
- Targets specific populations facing known health disparities related to the challenge
- Well-defined program
- Defines concrete objectives
- Has a clear action plan and deliverables
- Explains how award funding will be used and the plan to secure funding needed for sustainable implementation
- Innovative approach that applies critical success factors for a health equity initiative
- Brings new ideas to solve the challenge, such as partners, technology, data, channels, etc.
- Leverages data, social listening, and community engagement
- Offers culturally appropriate, accessible resources
- Delivers locally through trusted messengers
- Measures success
- Defines target results and key milestones
- Identifies the right measures of success to show impact on the target populations
