The Roche Laboratories Latin America and the Technical Secretariat of the Gabriel García Márquez Foundation for the New Iberian-American Journalism (FNPI) are seeking applications for “Prize for Health Journalism” to recognize excellence and stimulate quality journalism coverage about health in America Latina.
Thematic Areas
The papers presented should focus on one or more of the following themes:
- Innovation in health care
- Biotechnology in health
- Access to health treatments
- Research and development on health issues
- Regulation and public health policies
- Oncology
Benefits
The winner of each category will receive a scholarship to participate in a FNPI workshop according to their professional profile or may choose to participate in the Gabriel García Márquez Festival Journalism that takes place every year under the Gabriel García Márquez Award in Medellín, Colombia.
Eligibility Criteria
- The postulated pieces must have been published between January 1 and December 31, 2016 in legally recognized channels or television channels, print media or websites originating in any Latin American country.
- The works must have been produced originally in Spanish or Portuguese, with health issues related to one or more countries in the region.
- Both unitary and serial pieces may be postulated. It is considered a series those works with thematic unit that are published in the same medium, in several deliveries, with a start and end date. The fixed or permanent sections of a television program, a print medium, a website or the equivalent are not considered series.
- In the case of the Television and Video category, full programs presented as such to the Prize will not be contemplated, except if the broadcast of the program constitutes a single piece with a thematic unit.
- In no case can the same work be registered in the two categories in competition.
- Only one job per contestant journalist will be taken into account, unless the second one is collective. The same journalistic team may postulate only one job.
