Apply for Impact of Cancer and Cancer Care on Human Biology and Health Research Grant Programme – UK

Community Strengthening Grants - Healthy Active Living Stream (Australia)

Deadline: 10-Sep-2025

The Medical Research Foundation is inviting applications from researchers to support projects aimed at improving the lives of people living with and beyond cancer. The foundation encourages research proposals that focus on enhancing the quality of life for cancer survivors and those currently living with the disease.

Research areas of interest include the biological basis of side effects caused by cancer treatments, such as immunotherapies and biological therapeutics. Other areas include addressing long-term and late effects of cancer treatment, such as secondary cancers, cardiac issues, and stroke, particularly in paediatric cancer patients. The foundation is also interested in exploring side effects like neurological complications, mouth ulcers, swallowing issues, fatigue, pain, and nausea. Additionally, research that identifies risk or predictive factors for cancer therapy efficacy and severity of side effects, including the role of the microbiome, is welcomed. Finally, proposals focusing on improving the consequences of cancer treatments, such as infertility, endocrine deficiencies, and the impact of organ removal or major surgeries, will also be considered.

A total budget of up to £3,000,000 is available, with individual applications expected to range between £300,000 and £500,000 over a period of 3 to 5 years.

This competition is open to all UK-based researchers, clinical academics, and allied health professionals at eligible institutions, including UK HEIs, Research Council research institutes, hospitals, and other independent research organisations. Applicants must hold a PhD, DPhil, or MD. The foundation welcomes applications from researchers at all levels of seniority. Applicants and co-applicants who do not have a permanent contract may request a contribution to their salary costs, while established researchers with tenured positions may not request salary support. Clinical researchers and allied health professionals are strongly encouraged to apply.

Only one application will be accepted per applicant, though individuals can hold more than one Medical Research Foundation grant at the same time. Applicants who do not meet the eligibility criteria will not have their proposals assessed.
