EIT Climate-KIC is looking for a local partner in Tanzania to deliver a ClimAccelerator, an internationally recognised accelerator programme for start-ups to innovate, catalyse and scale the potential of their climate solutions.
This marks the first time, that the ClimAccelerator will be delivered in Tanzania, with a specific focus on supporting start-ups that are developing transformative climate adaptation solutions.
EIT Climate-KIC, in partnership with Irish Aid, is developing an Adaptation Innovation Cluster in Tanzania. This initiative engages with local stakeholders such as partners, accelerators, NGOs, government ministries, donors, consultancies, research institutions, and entrepreneurs. The goal is to understand the innovation ecosystem, government priorities, and areas of need for climate adaptation and resilience. The focus is on supporting innovation in agriculture, land use, and forestry to address food insecurity and malnutrition. Additionally, a ClimAccelerator will be launched to promote Adaptation & Resilience innovations.
Scheduled to run from September 2023 to May 2024, the ClimAccelerator will emphasise sustainable land use, agroforestry, agribusiness, and water as key areas of focus. The primary objectives of the programme are to enhance the resilience of rural communities to existing and future climate hazards, while assisting them in addressing climate vulnerabilities and risks. The ideal start-ups for this programme should be in the early stages of development, equipped with a working prototype, and possess a strong commitment to growing their business and scaling their solution.
EIT Climate-KIC is seeking a local partner who possesses an extensive network, valuable mentorship connections, and access to potential investors to co-design the ClimAccelerator programme in Tanzania. This local partner will play a crucial role in:
- Identifying and selecting high-potential start-ups with innovative climate adaptation solutions
- Providing comprehensive support and resources to selected start-ups to accelerate their growth and impact
- Fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment that promotes knowledge exchange and collaboration among entrepreneurs
- Facilitating access to networks, mentors, and potential investors to help start-ups scale their solutions
- Creating pathways for market adoption and deployment of climate adaptation innovations in Tanzania
Call to Action
- The aim of this call for proposals is to identify an organisation (or organisations) that will co-design with EIT Climate-KIC and implement the programme. The delivery organisation must be based in Tanzania and have access to network, mentors and potential investors to help start-ups scale their solutions.
- The service provider partner will be selected based on these factors as well as the capability and experience of the acceleration team, ability to mobilise a network of mentors and good connection with markets as well as early-stage impact investors.
Eligibility Criteria
- The teams or individuals delivering the services should be able to demonstrate the following experience and capabilities:
- The delivery organisation (or consortiums) must be registered and have a team based in Tanzania
- The delivery organisation presents a diverse consortium or team with the right expertise
- Competency to deliver the programme in English and in Swahili
- The delivery organisation has submitted the following documents for the due diligence:

- Proposals that fail the eligibility criteria will not be considered further in the process and applicants will be informed of the outcome via email to the contacts for the proposal; proposals must comply to the full set of the eligibility criteria.
