#food_program

Deadline: 13-Aug-2025

The World Food Programme (WFP) is accepting applications for the implementation of general food assistance, nutrition, digital and financial inclusion, resilience, and self-reliance initiatives in the Adjumani Refugee Settlement and surrounding host districts in Northern Uganda.

WFP Uganda provides both emergency and long-term support to refugees and host communities. This aligns with the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework, which focuses on emergency response and building resilience and self-reliance. The aim is to ensure that crisis-affected populations have access to nutritious food while also equipping them to gradually transition toward self-sufficiency.

WFP plans to strengthen programme delivery by forming new partnerships that use innovative methods to improve cost-effectiveness and overall impact. These partnerships will be based on existing capacities, presence in the settlements, and collaborative efforts to deliver long-term support to refugees.

The initiative covers various sectors, including food security through cash and food assistance, as well as livelihoods promotion through community mobilization, microfinance, and support for self-reliance. In the nutrition sector, the focus will be on infant and young child feeding and malnutrition prevention and treatment. Protection services are also included in the project scope.

The expected outcomes include food-insecure refugees and asylum seekers receiving in-kind or cash-based assistance, as well as access to nutrition-sensitive social and behavior change communication (SBCC). Vulnerable groups, such as children under five and pregnant or breastfeeding women, will receive nutrient-rich food to prevent and treat malnutrition.

Government bodies and stakeholders are expected to build greater capacity to plan and provide targeted assistance to vulnerable households. Refugees and host communities will also benefit from SBCC, productive assets, and skills development aimed at improving food security and fostering diversified livelihoods.

The programme also aims to drive social empowerment, support climate-smart agriculture to boost production and income, and digitize Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) while improving access to formal financial services. The geographic focus of this project is in Northern Uganda.
