Applications are now open for the 2022 Premier’s Awards for Health and Medical Research.
Established in 1995 by the Victorian Government in partnership with the Australian Society for Medical Research, the awards recognise the exceptional contributions and capabilities of Victoria’s early-career health and medical researchers.
Award Categories
The five award categories include:
- Basic Science Researcher
- Clinical Researcher
- Aboriginal Researcher undertaking research in any field of health and medical research
- Health Services Researcher
- Public Health Researcher
Award Details
- Each of the five category award winners will receive $5,000 in prize money. Each winner will also be presented with a framed certificate.
- The Premier’s Award for Health and Medical Research Excellence winner will receive an additional $15,000 (total prize money of $20,000) and be presented with a trophy.
- Eligible applicants may only apply for one research category.
Outcomes
The Premier’s Awards for Health and Medical Research aims to:
- Increase the profile of Victorian health and medical researchers and their research in the health and medical community
- Increase the understanding of the value of health and medical research in the Victorian community
- Build Victoria’s strong health and medical research brand by attracting and retaining the best medical researchers in the industry.
Eligibility Criteria
The following people are encouraged to apply:
- current PhD candidates within a health and medical field who are at least two years into candidature at a Victorian academic or research institute
- post-doctoral researchers within a health and medical field who have completed a PhD at a Victorian academic or research institute in the past three years.
- Applicants must be either an Australian or New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency in Australia.
- Applicants that are applying for the Aboriginal Researcher undertaking research in any field of health and medical research category must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; and be accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which they live (or originate).
