Report on Vaccines and Immunization Online Workshop and Mentoring Program

WHO Call for Applicants for Comprehensive Training

Deadline: 5-Sep-21

The Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF), with funding from the Sabin Vaccine Institute, is organizing the online workshop “Reporting on Vaccines and Immunization”.

The five-day workshop is intended to improve the ability of journalists to carry out their informative work, producing quality journalism that is interesting for their audience.
The workshop will feature trainers with extensive journalistic experience in international media such as Reuters. The workshop will cover topics such as the role of vaccines in public health, the dilemma of vaccine-reluctant views, scientific jargon, COVID-19 vaccine deployment, and vaccination inequalities.
The workshop will also deal with the role that the media plays in educating the public about vaccines and immunization, being key agents to counteract misinformation. Selected journalists will have access to authorized official sources who will be invited to the workshop as speakers and will share the latest scientific and health advances.
The online workshop will be a combination of interactive group sessions, expert briefings, and individual study sessions. The fourth day is reserved for each participant to meet for 15 minutes with the trainers to review their story idea and prepare their presentation. Therefore, participants are encouraged to attend the training with a story idea in mind to develop.
Award Information
After the workshop, all selected journalists will receive eight weeks of individual tutoring to produce a report of their choice. Each participant will receive a scholarship of £ 250 (approximately US $ 340) upon publication of their story. The grant is intended to finance production costs, travel expenses, internet connection and other necessary costs.
