The IFRA-Nigeria Research Grant 2026 provides an opportunity for scholars to conduct research in the humanities and social sciences across West Africa.

The focus areas for this grant include Beliefs, bodies and health, Citizenship, gender and mobilisation, Heritage dynamics and environment, and Digital Humanities. This grant is open to second-year master’s students, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, and other scholars engaged in research within the humanities and social sciences. Eligible research must be conducted in Nigeria, Cameroon, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Liberia, Gambia, Niger, Chad, or Burkina Faso. Applications can be submitted in either French or English.

The IFRA-Nigeria Research Grant supports projects for a duration from January to October 2026. Projects may be individual or collective and can include fieldwork missions or archival research. Each grant can provide up to €1,000 depending on the scope and budget of the project. Applicants are encouraged to develop sustainable partnerships with institutions or researchers in the host country.

Applicants must ensure that their projects align with at least one of the four research axes and include a component for dissemination, such as publications or presentations. The application requires a motivation letter, a CV, a detailed research project description, and a budget outline.

This grant aims to advance knowledge in the specified focus areas and strengthen research collaboration in West Africa, providing scholars with the resources and support necessary to conduct meaningful research.
