Deadline: 15-Aug-2025
Applications are now open for the OVC Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program, aimed at ensuring forensic nursing continues to meet the needs of sexual assault survivors. The program focuses on updating the OVC SANE Program Development and Operation Guide, a critical resource for creating, expanding, or improving SANE programs across communities.
The updated Guide will offer a structured framework for building forensic nursing programs that deliver specialized care to survivors. Due to advancements in the field, changes in national standards, and evolving protocols, revising the Guide is essential to maintain its relevance and effectiveness nationwide.
The goal of this initiative is to enhance the Guide into a modern, comprehensive tool that supports the establishment and refinement of SANE programs. This involves consulting experts from forensic nursing, legal services, victim advocacy, law enforcement, and public health to guide the project.
The updated Guide will include current national standards, trauma-informed protocols, collaboration strategies, post-exam support procedures, sustainability practices, staffing and training recommendations, and user-friendly tools like checklists and templates. Content will be shared through webinars, videos, and case studies to reach practitioners effectively.
The Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) will prioritize funding for projects that directly support law enforcement, combat violent crime, serve American citizens, protect children, and assist victims of trafficking and sexual assault.
A total of $350,000 will be awarded under this opportunity, with a single award anticipated. The project will span a performance period of 36 months.
Eligible applicants include state, county, and local governments, tribal governments (both federally recognized and others), public and private institutions of higher education, and nonprofit organizations with or without 501(c)(3) status, excluding higher education institutions. Other units of local government may also apply.
