wayOUT (US): 2022 Grant Applications Are Now Open!

Deadline: 4-Jun-21

The Gay Straight Alliance (GSA; Alliance) is pleased to announce that this year it will award a prize for its contribution to the fight against homophobia and trans-phobia and the protection and promotion of the human rights of LGBT people in Serbia.

The award called “Rainbow” was established by the GSA in 2013 and it is awarded on the occasion of May 17 – International Day Against Homophobia and Trans-phobia (IDAHO) for contributions to the previous year.

The visibility of the LGBT population in Serbia and the problems it faces have increased, the legal framework for combating violence and discrimination has improved, institutions and political actors are taking LGBT issues more seriously.

Although all of them, the state and its institutions and LGBT organizations and society as a whole, a big and responsible job is yet to be done to reduce homophobia and trans-phobia and achieve adequate standards in respecting and protecting LGBT rights, they believe that there are those who are committed to it in various areas.

Their role as a non-governmental organization, as well as the role of their colleagues from other civil society organizations, is to actualize problems and criticize those who are responsible when they are not solved.

However, their role is also to notice and notice the deeds and real progress when they are realized and to praise those who contributed to that, and that is why they established the “Rainbow” award.

Regardless of the fact that GSA is the initiator and organizer of the “Rainbow” award, they want to take into account the opinions and suggestions of as many organizations, institutions and individuals as possible every year through the award process.

That is why they have established a public competition for nomination, and the award is given on the basis of the received nominations.
