“Médiamig” Program to Improve Media Coverage of Migration

The European Union (EU) – International Organization for Migration (IOM) Joint Initiative for Migrant Protection and Reintegration is organising a reporting migration competition in West and Central African countries to foster quality reporting on reintegration and protection of migrants. Nigeria is participating in this competition.

The Reporting Migration initiative encourages investigative journalism on migration in order to nuance negative discourses and narratives about the phenomenon in the region. The initiative is also aimed at Free, independent journalism that meets high standards of quality helps raise awareness of the risks of irregular migration and restores dignity to the thousands of migrants who are prejudiced against them.

To participate in this competition, journalists are invited to submit their published print, online or broadcast items (radio or video) on the below thematic areas:

Journalists will compete for a share of USD 6,000. The cash prize will be distributed as follows:

The winning submissions will also have their pieces republished on a media partner’s platform.
