Request for Applications: Smart Building Grant Program (Canada)

21st Call for Proposals under Biotechnology Ignition Grant Program in India

Deadline: 14-November-2025

The Canada’s Centre of Excellence in Next Generation Networks, opportunity has been launched to advance innovation in smart building technologies through a partnership between CENGN and Morguard.

This call for proposals invites Canadian organizations to develop and execute project action plans that address Morguard’s key smart building challenge areas. The initiative seeks solutions that enhance smart energy management, computerized maintenance management, premise safety and security, and tenant experiences and services. Projects may focus on one or more types of buildings, including urban high-rises, multi-unit residential complexes, enclosed shopping centres, and suburban mid-rise office campuses.

Up to six grants of as much as CAD 100,000 each will be awarded under this program. Each project will run for up to twelve months and must include all stages of research, testing, validation, and final reporting. The funding will operate on a cost-reimbursement model, covering up to 50 percent of eligible expenses. Applicants are required to secure the remaining funding independently, and reimbursements will only be processed once a fully executed Ultimate Recipient Contribution Agreement has been returned to CENGN.

To be eligible, applicants must be registered organizations in Canada with 499 or fewer full-time employees. The proposed technology must be deployable within a CENGN Living Lab, ensuring that it can be effectively tested and validated in a real-world environment.

Applicants must also disclose the total level of government financial assistance they are receiving. Industry collaborators may receive up to 75 percent in combined government funding, while post-secondary collaborators may be supported for up to 100 percent of eligible costs. All participants must agree to sign a participation agreement and demonstrate solid financial management capabilities, including a recent credit review and a two-year cash flow forecast.

This call for proposals offers an important opportunity for Canadian innovators to contribute to the future of smart buildings. By developing cutting-edge technologies that improve energy efficiency, operational management, safety, and tenant satisfaction, participants will help advance sustainable, data-driven solutions that can transform how properties are managed and experienced across Canada.
