The Royal Academy of Engineering is now inviting applications for its Shott Scale Up Accelerator, a six-month programme that develops, nurtures and strengthens the leadership capabilities of senior decision makers in high-growth engineering and tech SMEs to scale their business to the next level.
The Shott Scale Up Accelerator is funded by BEIS and Ian Shott CBE FREng a highly successful entrepreneur who has played a pivotal role in establishing and growing the Enterprise Hub since its inception in 2013.
Training today's leaders of high-growth businesses to become the next generation of leading decision-makers in UK engineering and technology.
What is the aim of the Shott Scale Up Accelerator?
- To improve the leadership skills of those managing engineering scaleup SMEs in the UK, through which they aim to support excellence in engineering.
What do they provide?
- This program is designed to equip you with the leadership skills to successfully scale up your company. It is an opportunity to refine your strategy and enhance your leadership abilities while continuing to work on your business.

Instead on the program means you will receive:
- a £10k grant towards the very best leadership training delivered anywhere in the world
- monthly, one-to-one scaleup coaching tailored to your technology and business needs
- an experienced mentor from the unrivaled network of 1700+ Academy Fellows
- a flexible mix of expert-led growth training workshops hosted online or in-person at locations around the UK
- Peer-to-peer networking, roundtables and speaker events from like-minded leaders from across the UK
- Free access to the Taylor Centre, the central London office and meeting space, and to the regional hub in Ormeau Baths, Belfast
- Travel and accommodation expenses covered
- Lifetime membership of the Enterprise Hub to share co-working spaces, connections and mentoring opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria

The applicant
- Both engineers and non-engineers who work at engineering and technology SMEs based in the UK are welcome to apply.
- Applicants of any nationality are eligible as long as you have the right to work in the UK.
- Only one applicant per company per round.
- The Academy is committed to diversity and welcomes nominations and nominees from women and other groups who are currently under-represented across engineering, as well as recognizing the full breadth of engineering.

The company
- Your company must have cumulatively raised at least £1,000,000, through either equity investment (from inception), turnover in the last financial year (excluding grants or consultancy), or a combination of both.
- Applicants must come from a company based in the UK and registered with Companies House. For multinational companies, the Head Office must be based in the UK.
- Only applicants from SMEs who aren't wholly or majority owned by another company are eligible (SME as per the EU definition).
- They cannot accept applications from consultancies.
- Software companies must exhibit engineering as their core component and should be innovative and protectable.

The application
- Applications must be written and submitted by the intended recipient.
- Each enterprise can submit a maximum of one application for the program if they are successful.
- One additional application will be considered in another round if it is submitted by a candidate belonging to a group that is underrepresented within UK engineering. Please note this also includes those who were successful in gaining a place on the previously named SME Leaders programme.
