The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has opened its The Western Armenian Culture Grant Programme – already | in view 2025–2026 Call for Proposals, presenting an exciting opportunity for individuals and small groups to create, produce, and distribute diverse cultural productions in Western Armenian.
The programme views cultural production in its widest sense, encompassing artistic practices, knowledge, expressions, tools, and spaces where the Western Armenian language is central. It embraces culture in all its forms — the arts, humanities, and heritage — with a focus on creativity, innovation, and contemporary relevance. By combining tradition with new knowledge and practices, the programme seeks to foster the revitalization, continuity, and growth of Armenian communities worldwide.
The programme’s mission is guided by a strong set of priorities that celebrate creativity in Western Armenian and strengthen the bond between language and culture. It recognises culture as a cohesive and empowering force, capable of transforming society and ensuring the evolution of cultural resources. Through cultural participation and creative expression, individuals and groups are encouraged to reclaim and reimagine their cultural identity, making culture an active tool for sustainable development.
A key goal of the already | in view initiative is to use the power of culture to renew both the Western Armenian language and the culture itself. It promotes diversity, inclusiveness, and gender balance while encouraging the participation of youth and the adoption of new cultural practices. The programme also aims to connect Armenian culture with global issues and other cultures, highlighting its potential to inspire change, creativity, and innovation. By giving visibility to artistic and cultural projects from across the Armenian world, it seeks to strengthen the presence and vitality of Armenian voices everywhere.
Up to ten projects will be supported each year, with each selected project receiving a maximum grant of €10,000. Awardees will be announced by 13 April 2026. The call is open to individuals, small groups, and non-profit organisations or institutions across the Armenian Diaspora and Armenia. Applicants must be over 18 years old, though they need not be established artists to apply.
Eligible projects can span a wide range of cultural fields, including the arts, humanities, and heritage. They may also include theatre, visual arts, literature, translations, performing arts, and new or hybrid media forms. The programme welcomes creative expressions in music, video, animation, blogs, podcasts, and broadcasting, as well as innovative digital platforms that bring Western Armenian culture to new audiences.
Through this initiative, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation continues to champion cultural diversity and linguistic vitality. The already | in view programme stands as an invitation for creators to imagine, experiment, and collaborate — to ensure that Western Armenian culture remains a living, evolving force that connects generations and communities across the globe.
