The U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, announces an open competition for an implementing partner for the 2022 Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Program in Tanzania.
Applications will be evaluated based on the capacity of the organization to implement the AWE program. Cost-sharing and the inclusion of alumni of U.S. Department of State exchange programs in developing and implementing grant activity are encouraged but not required. Applications should explain clearly any other likely sources of funding for the project.
The goal of the project is to empower women in Tanzania to fulfill their economic potential, and in doing so, create conditions for a more stable, secure, and prosperous society. The objective of the project is to engage a maximum of 60 Tanzanian women entrepreneurs in an educational program designed to equip them with skills for successful development of their business ideas.
Facilitators proposed for the program should have:
- Extensive previous mentoring experience
- Demonstrated success in the entrepreneurship world
- Educational background in a relevant field (e.g., marketing, accounting, business management, etc.)
- A good network of investors, other start-ups, entrepreneurs.
Funding information
- Award amount: Up to $40,000
- Number of awards anticipated: One award
- Program Performance Period: Proposed programs should be completed in 12 months or less.
- Anticipated program start date: April 1, 2022 through September 30, 2022.
Participants and Audiences
The target audience for this program is women living in Dodoma and Mbeya, between the ages of 25 and 55, with limited or zero experience in business. Participants should have a great entrepreneurial idea already in mind. Selected participants should have intermediate English skills, basic computer skills, and should be able to dedicate seven hours per week of their time to Page 3 of 8 the AWE program. The participants must have access to a computer workstation and stable internet connection for the duration of the program.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible Applicants:
- applicants may be registered non-governmental organizations, including associations, civil-society, non-governmental organizations.
- All 60 participants in the program must come from Tanzania – ideally 30 from Dodoma and 30 from Mbeya.
