The Department of Health & Human Services, and State Government of Victoria has announced the 6th round of 2021 Community Shade Grants Program to community organisations for shade development in public spaces.
The aim of the Program is to reduce Victorians’ exposure to UV radiation by increasing shade in public places across the state and by promoting uptake of sun protective practices.
The Victorian Government will continue its investment and deliver on the election commitment to provide $15.1 million towards the prevention and early detection of skin cancer, including $10 million to the Shade Grants Program over 2019 to 2023.
The Program provides funding for:
- New permanent shade;
- Repair or replacement of existing permanent shade;
- Natural shade;
- Portable shade;
- Sun protective items.
Funding Information
- Band 0: Up to $700 (sun protective items only), Within 6 months of notification of funding success;
- Band 1: Up to $10,000, Within 6 months of notification of funding success;
- Band 2: $10,001–$25,000, Within 12 months of notification of funding success;
- Band 3: $25,001–$50,000, Within 12 months of notification of funding success.
Eligibility Criteria
Organisations must be not-for-profit and registered as either an incorporated association, company limited by guarantee, non-trading/non-distributing co-operative, Indigenous corporation or local government entity. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Community groups;
- Sports clubs;
- Scouts and guide groups;
- Local councils;
- Kindergartens;
- Early childhood education and care services;
- Religious organisations (excluding schools).
