As part of the “Advancing Human Rights for All in Armenia” project, American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is seeking applications from local Armenian Human Rights Organizations (HROs) aimed at human rights protection, promotion and monitoring mechanisms in Armenia.
The programs should focus on sensitive and underreported human rights issues and introduce and/or institutionalize referral mechanisms between the HRDO and HROs. Special consideration will be given to proposals that focus on one or more of the following areas: rights of marginalized or vulnerable persons; persons with disabilities; women’s rights; socio-economic rights; and/or, domestic violence prevention.
The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI) is an international development program that promotes the rule of law by working with in-country partners to build sustainable institutions and societies that deliver justice, foster economic opportunity and ensure respect for human dignity. The “Advancing Human Rights for All in Armenia” project is a two-year project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the ABA ROLI in collaboration with Human Rights Defender Office of Armenia (HRDO).
The proposed activities should include but are not limited to the following:
- Public awareness campaigns that pay special attention to youth, are accessible to people with special needs and reach people in Armenia’s regions;
- Provision of legal aid with special focus on people in regions;
- Prevention, protection, and monitoring of human rights violations;
- Legal empowerment and awareness activities; town-halls; creation of specific Facebook pages, trainings, etc.
Funding Information
ABA ROLI will award up to five subawards that range from a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $10,000 respectively. Programs are anticipated to begin on or around November 15, 2018, and must be completed within six to nine months of the start date.
Eligibility Criteria
- The competition is open to Non-profit, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that are registered as such according to the laws of Armenia.
- Specific legal or other circumstances making such registration unfeasible should be noted on the application.
- In order to be eligible to receive an award, all organizations must have a unique entity identifier (Data Universal Numbering System/DUNS number.
