Applicants are invited to submit their applications for its Agriculture On-Farm Student Bursary Program.
The Agriculture On-Farm Student Bursary program introduces agriculture to students as a viable career option and helps address the labour gap for agriculture producers in Nova Scotia.
Objectives
This program assists students in achieving success while developing the knowledge and skills needed to work in the Agricultural Industry.

The Agriculture On-Farm Student Bursary program aims to:
- Introduce agriculture as a viable career option; and
- Address the labour gap for primary agriculture producers in Nova Scotia.
Funding Information
Program funding through this program is $1,000 per program year, which is in addition to the wages paid by the employer. A student enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution, who has worked on a Nova Scotia registered farm for:
- A minimum of 250 hours can receive a $500 bursary; or
- A minimum of 500 hours can receive a $1,000 bursary.

Students may accumulate hours over multiple years as far back as May 1st, 2021 as follows:
- Hours earned the summer (after grade 12 school year)
- Hours earned the summer (after grade 11 school year)
- Summer = May 1st to end of the 1st week in September.
- Note: Hours claimed in previous years are not eligible for funding.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, you must:
- Be a student in Nova Scotia
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- Be resident of Nova Scotia
- Be enrolled in a post-secondary institution in September (of the program year)
- Be employed by a Nova Scotia registered farm guaranteeing a minimum work term of 250 to 500 hours between 1 May, 2022 to the end of the first week of September 2022
Requirements
- Students must retain and submit their Record of Employment(s) (ROE) with an application once accepted into an accredited post-secondary educational institution. Applicants may be required to supply a copy of their T-4 for audit purposes.
- The application must be signed by the employer of a Nova Scotia Registered Farm to confirm employment.
- The application must be signed by a parent or legal guardian if the applicant is under the age of 19.
