The Amarillo Area Foundation (AAF) is accepting applications for its Discretionary Grants.
Focus Areas
In the first 3 rounds of the year, the foundation will accept applications for any of the three strategic impact areas (Education, Healthcare, Economic Opportunity).

Impact Goal 1: Literacy
- Increase the percentage of 3rd grade students reading at grade level from 44% to 54% in the Texas Panhandle by 2030.
- Increase the percentage of students deemed kindergarten ready from 46% to 60% in the Texas Panhandle by 2030.

Impact Goal 2: Higher Education & Workforce
- Increase the number of high school graduates immediately enrolling in college from 51% to 64% by 2030.
- Expand the overall number of Texas Panhandle students participating in work-based learning opportunities which culminate in the completion of credentials leading to a family sustaining wage.

- By 2026, develop and implement a data collection strategy and mechanism for semiannual reporting on mental and behavioral health needs in the region.
- Develop the mental healthcare provider workforce in the Texas Panhandle.

- Through a coordinated set of actions, food insecurity will be reduced from 19% to 9% by 2030.

- Support the expansion of high-quality, affordable broadband in all 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle.

Funding Information
Discretionary: over $20,000
Eligibility Criteria
The Applicant Organization must:
- Applicant must hold a current tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. This includes: traditional agencies that have current 501(c)(3) status; a recognized government entity requesting funds for public charitable purposes; K-12 public schools; community colleges or universities; or churches/faith-based organizations for projects benefitting the community at large. Individuals are not eligible applicants.
- Applicant must use grant funds within and for the benefit of the residents and communities of the 26 northernmost counties of the Texas Panhandle.
- Proposals will not be accepted from organizations that have not fulfilled the reporting requirements of any previous grants.
Exclusions
AAF will not accept any proposals for projects that serve communities or residents located outside the northernmost 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle. The board also does not grant funds to the following projects:
- Religious activities or programs that serve specific religious groups or denominations
- Parochial or private schools primarily funded through student tuition
- Direct political lobbying or legislative activities (except if lobbying aligns with the core purpose of the foundation)
- Debt retirement or deficit funding
- Already completed projects
- Fundraising activities and events
